Jarvie Plant have over 35 years experience in Plant Hire and operates throughout Central Scotland from four depots; Grangemouth (Head Office), Glasgow, Cowdenbeath and Edinburgh. There are three divisions on the company; Plant Hire, Car and Van Hire and Portable Accommodation Hire.
The previous Jarvie Plant website was a very simple affair. It provided brief information on the company and the services it provides. However, John Jarvie the Managing Director realised that the company should be providing a lot more through its website.
In consultation with Alienation, and after discussing the business requirements of the company, a new online business solution was developed. Through the website, Jarvie plant customers would be able to hire and buy any of the thousands of plant items available. Jarvie can assign different credit ratings to each customer, which ultimately affects the price displayed for the customer. Once an account has been created, they can log in, hire or buy items, view their order history and off-hire items. i.e. Specify a date when Jarvie can collect the plant equipment to be returned. The online booking system also allows them to calculate the distance to their nearest depot and specify an exact time for delivery.
Along with the sophisticated account and e-commerce system, Jarvie also have access to a Content Management System that allows them to add and remove plant equipment, process account and order details and update all of the other areas of the website such as the News and Job Vacancies.

By taking the "what solutions does my business need" approach rather than the "I need a website" approach, Jarvie have a very powerful tool at their disposal - something that is much more than a simple marketing medium.
Paperwork and time have been reduced by conducting some of their business online - freeing up staff to concentrate on other aspects of the business. Allowing customers to control their account online has reduced the amount of time spent by Jarvie on the day to day administration of customers.
The website also allows Jarvie to sell excess plant equipment online in a much more cost efficient manor than was available to them previously.
Slowly but surely, the online business processes developed by Alienation are transforming the way Jarvie does business - helping to keep costs down, and more importantly, providing a return on their investment. Something to be proud of in an industry not known for its enthusiasm for new technology.
